Legislation

Legislation: Wild, Scenic & Recreational Rivers

Minnesota's Wild & Scenic Rivers Act was established in 1973 to protect Minnesota's outstanding river resources. This legislation mandates the Department of Natural Resources to develop standards and criteria for the preservation, protection, and management of designated rivers. Each riverway has its own management plan incorporating the general standards for minimum lot size, setback from water, approved land uses, etc., as well as specific strategies to maintain the unique values for which the river was originally designated.
