Construction Aggregate Maps
October 2008 Update
|
The DNR's Aggregate Mapping Program provides citizens, local government, land use planners, the construction industry, and environmental groups with specific county-wide information on the location and the quality of aggregate resources. This information supports long-term comprehensive planning and promotes environmentally sound development of aggregate resources.
The Minnesota Legislature established the program (MN Statute 84.94) in 1984. Highest priority is given to areas where urbanization or other land use factors may threaten long-term protection and use of aggregate resources.
Aggregate resource maps for Benton, Blue Earth, Chisago, Clay, Dodge, Isanti, Itasca, Le Sueur, Meeker, Nicollet, Renville, Sherburne, and Wright counties are now available; digital data is available for Benton, Blue Earth, Clay, Dodge, Itasca, Isanti, Le Sueur, Meeker, Nicollet, Renville, and Wright counties. Mapping of aggregate resources for Stearns, Mille Lacs, Olmsted, and Kandiyohi counties are underway.
The Legislature directed that the resource evaluation and mapping be done outside the Twin Cities Seven County Metropolitan Area. The Metropolitan Area has been mapped by the Minnesota Geological Survey and Metropolitan Council. More information on Twin Cities Aggregate Resources. To order the printed map, M-102 (1999, 2 plates on 4 sheets) contact the Minnesota Geological Survey, 612-627-4780. Digital map and data files are available at ftp://mgssun6.mngs.umn.edu/pub2/m-102/
Below are links to digital maps (Adobe Acrobat format) and datasets (zipped ArcView format). The maps are viewable with the Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free software package available at the Adobe website. Zipped (compressed) datasets must be unzipped with software, then viewed using ArcView or other geographic information system software. A free geographic data reader, ArcExplorer, can be used to display the data, and is available through the website of its developer, ESRI.
ONLINE AGGREGATE MAPPER
The Aggregate Resource Mapping Program has several counties available to view in an interactive format. Aggregate resource information can be viewed and overlayed with other data like topographic maps, airphotos, and digital elevation models. More counties will be available as we complete aggregate resource assessments. Follow the link below to view our Online Aggregate Mapper.
