Firewood restrictions
DNR firewood rules
- Leave firewood at home and purchase approved firewood near or within your campground. Most state parks offer quality firewood for sale at a reasonable price. To find an approved firewood vendor near your destination, check the approved firewood vendor listing.
Remember to keep your receipt to show proof of purchase. - Do not leave any unused wood behind and do not take it with you to another destination.
- Unapproved firewood brought to a state-administered campground will be confiscated and is subject to a $100 fine.
Attention campers from outside of Minnesota
- Do not bring firewood with you to a state-administered campground. It will be confiscated, and if the wood is from a quarantined area, you could be violating a federal law that forbids moving wood of any kind out of your state or county of residence.
Attention campers in Minnesota
- Use only firewood from an approved DNR firewood vendor within 100 miles of where you will use it. To find an approved firewood vendor near your destination, check the web page for each state park, state forest or day-use area. Be sure to keep your receipt to show proof of purchase.
You can buy firewood in, or just outside of, almost every Minnesota State Park.
